Straidbilly Primary School has received their first ever green flag award in June 2023. We as a school are so proud of our children who worked so diligently to receive this award!

Our litter-free grounds encompass the following:

  • sensory garden
  • a willow dome
  • a water butt
  • picnic tables
  • planter boxes
  • construction zone
  • outdoor education area
  • wildlife area

Each year our eco-council pupils complete an Environmental Review to assess key actions that need taken.

All classes complete eco lessons and activities as part of their curriculum.

This year our topics are: Biodiversity, Outdoor learning and The Marine Environment.

We have been embarking on outdoor lessons once per week to enhance our knowledge of our outdoor area.

Meetings have been held on Mondays between 2-3pm

We have had workshops from coastal schools NI and NI Water.

We have implemented a new outdoor learning space complete with polytunnel to allow children to understand our biodiversity topic more.

Gardening club has been established in school and is well received by the children.

Pupils have the opportunity to voice their opinions to the eco-council who then bring these ideas to the monthly meetings.
